Phylogenetic paleoecology: macroecology within an evolutionary framework

چکیده
The burgeoning field of phylogenetic paleoecology (Lamsdell et al. 2017) represents a synthesis the related but differently focused fields macroecology (Brown 1995) and macroevolution (Stanley 1975). Through combination data methods both disciplines, leverages theory quantitative to explain temporal spatial variation in species diversity, distribution, disparity. Phylogenetic is ideally situated elucidate many fundamental issues evolutionary biology, including generation new phenotypes occupation previously unexploited environments; nature relationships among character change, ecology, rates; determinants geographic distribution clades; underlying signal ecological selectivity extinctions radiations. This because explicitly recognizes incorporates quasi-independent as expressed dual biological hierarchies (Eldredge Salthe 1984; Congreve 2018; Fig. 1), incorporating covarying factors rather than focusing on one treating other error within dataset.

DNA sequence data contains a wealth of biologically useful information. Recent innovations in DNA sequencing technology have greatly increased our capacity to determine massive amounts of nucleotide sequences. These sequences can be used to specify the characteristics of different regions, interpret the evolutionary relationships between categorized groups, likelihood of performing multiple com...

Heterochrony is important as a potential mechanism of evolutionary change. However, the analysis of developmental timing data within a phylogenetic framework to identify important shifts has proven difficult. In particular, analytical problems with sequence (event) heterochrony revolve around the lack of an absolute time frame in development to allow standardization of timing data across specie...
متن کاملThe macroecology of rapid evolutionary radiation.
A long-standing debate in ecology addresses whether community composition is the result of stochastic factors or assembly rules. Non-random, over-dispersed patterns of species co-occurrence have commonly been attributed to competition--a particularly important force in adaptive radiation. We thus examined the macroecology of the recently radiated cichlid rock-fish assemblage in Lake Malawi, Afr...

Phylogenetic community ecology seeks to explain the processes involved in the formation of species assemblages by analysing their phylogenetic structure, and to date has focused primarily on local-scale communities. Macroecology, on the other hand, is concerned with the structure of assemblages at large geographical scales, but has remained largely non-phylogenetic. Analysing the phylogenetic s...
متن کاملPhylogenetic lineages in the Botryosphaeriales: a systematic and evolutionary framework
UNLABELLED The order Botryosphaeriales represents several ecologically diverse fungal families that are commonly isolated as endophytes or pathogens from various woody hosts. The taxonomy of members of this order has been strongly influenced by sequence-based phylogenetics, and the abandonment of dual nomenclature. In this study, the phylogenetic relationships of the genera known from culture a...
